Rural local supply via vending machines

Opportunities and funding for vending machines selling beverages, meat and baked goods - the LEADER program and rural local supply

Providing local services in communities and villages is becoming an increasingly significant challenge. The effects of demographic change and the closure of small grocery stores are clearly noticeable everywhere. Discount stores and large supermarkets have exacerbated the situation by relocating to the outskirts of towns and cities.

Mobility is becoming increasingly important, and here too there are acute problems. Public transport is becoming ever more expensive for municipalities and citizens. In some cases, taxi companies are being used because it is more economical for the municipality. These two problems are converging – the erosion of municipal infrastructure and shopping facilities, and the decline of local public transport. The Covid-19 pandemic may even have had a positive effect in this regard. There is a growing search for local solutions to ensure simple and uncomplicated access to essential goods and services. This is where vending machines come into play. They experienced significant development in 2020 and, thanks to new compartments and spirals, increased digitalization, and modern payment options, are now able to fill the gap that has emerged.

The vending machines are in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Manpower is only required for restocking (daily or several times a day).

More and more of our customers – whether butchers, bakeries, farm shops, or coffee houses – are therefore choosing to hire an additional employee in the form of a vending machine. This requires minimal effort – only a 230V power connection and some space are needed.

When retailers withdraw from rural areas, new ways are needed to ensure the supply of goods to people in villages.

The LEADER program of the European Union

Since 2014, the European Union has offered the LEADER program to support the economic vitality of rural communities. This program promotes measures to support the development of the rural economy, including the creation of local supply networks. The European Union provides approximately €100 billion for this purpose. Up to 100% of a project can be funded! For example, the gas station in Oberweis (Bitburg-Prüm district) received a grant of €8,957.00. (Source: Kreisnachrichten, Linus Wittich, online edition of December 22, 2020). We've included a link to the article here for your convenience.

This is where the EU's LEADER program makes a real difference. Implementation and procurement become significantly easier, and entrepreneurs can minimize their risk. Projects can be developed in collaboration with us and submitted to the relevant office within the LEADER region.
