Unroasted raw cacao beans from the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

It is no coincidence that the cocoa bean bears the name Theobroma – fruit of the gods! These particularly fine cocoa beans, whose growth is accompanied by spiritual practices, are not roasted and only fermented in order to preserve all their ingredients.

There are many scientific reasons why raw cacao beans have an exceptionally positive effect on our emotions and our well-being in body and mind. They contain the substances anandamide and phenylethylamine, which are responsible for feelings of happiness and pleasure. Theobromine stimulates the central nervous system, dilates blood vessels, and acts as a diuretic.

Dopamine, an important neurotransmitter. Serotonin, an anti-stress neurotransmitter. Arginine, an amino acid involved in regulating our hormone balance and blood flow. Consuming cocoa beans is considered an appetite suppressant and a helpful aid for quitting smoking or reducing caffeine intake.

Raw cacao beans also contain large amounts of magnesium and phosphorus. They are also known as the product with the highest concentration of antioxidants. These bind free radicals in our bodies, thus slowing down cell degeneration and the aging process.

Harmoniously and deeply connected to the earth, the indigenous farmers from whom we source these beans believe in a sacred responsibility to protect their world: the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Their ancient cacao culture was destroyed when foreign settlers cut down the cacao trees because they looked different and also robbed the indigenous people of their land, forcing them to flee to higher elevations where cacao no longer grew.

Some researchers believe that the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta may be the birthplace of the Criollo Blanco cacao, from where it spread to the Amazon and further north into the Mayan forests. The Arhuaco and other Indigenous people are fiercely determined to protect their ancient cacao traditions, as this project perfectly aligns with their philosophy and lifestyle, which is based on organic and sustainable farming practices. Purchasing these cacao beans helps preserve this careful culture and the endangered wildlife with which they live in harmony.
