Sometimes the best things happen by chance – like our new India Monsooned Espresso.
Our roastmaster only wanted to roast our classic India Monsooned. But in the meantime, he became engrossed in a conversation with a new colleague about different processing methods.
When he looked at the roasting profile again, the temperature was suddenly higher than usual.
We tasted the coffee repeatedly over several days , and what initially seemed like a "roasting mishap" turned out to be a small discovery: The typical earthy notes of peat and malt had disappeared. Likewise, most of the fruity nuances were gone. In their place emerged notes of popcorn, dark chocolate, and roasted notes like those we usually find in fresh bread.
The best result we've achieved so far was with the following brewing recipe: 17 grams of coffee grounds, 50 grams of extracted coffee at a brewing temperature of 93°C in the portafilter. The extraction time can therefore be a bit longer. It's generally important with India Monsooned coffee not to drink it too fresh. About 7-10 days after roasting is perfect.
We're offering the first 60 kilos of this limited-edition roast exclusively in our webshop and at the roastery's shop in Echternach. And then it's your turn – if you're as thrilled with this espresso as we are, it will become a permanent part of our selection. We've, of course, saved the roasting profile and curves just in case.
What does "Monsooned" actually mean?
India Monsooned Malabar is a true specialty. After harvesting, the beans are exposed to the humid monsoon climate of the Malabar Coast for several weeks. This traditional process causes the beans to swell slightly, lose their original acidity, and develop a particularly smooth, full-bodied flavor.
Flavor profile of India Monsooned Espresso
Aromas: Dark chocolate, popcorn, very subtle fruit notes
Body: Full-bodied, velvety, soft
Acidity: Very low – ideal for sensitive stomachs
Aftertaste: Mild, pleasant, slightly sweet
Perfect for anyone who loves strong espresso with a smooth character.
Of course, you can vary the parameters depending on the machine and your taste – but this is how the roasted notes and popcorn aromas develop particularly harmoniously.
This special roast is initially limited to 30 kilos.
We'd love your feedback: Let us know what you think of the espresso. If you're as impressed as we are, it will remain a permanent part of our product range.
